EYESORES OF ABANDONED boats are appearing all too often nowadays on the waterways.
With two in Loughborough on the Grand Union Canal creating complaints from the locals, reports Janet Friend.

They taking to social media to get them cleared, as more and more are taking this method to get the rising number of abandoned boats cleared from the canals.
It is claimed there were a total of four abandoned boats between Bishop Meadow Lock and Loughborough Basin that had been reported.
Responding to the complaints, Canal & River Trust, tell it was aware of the boats on the canal, a spokesman explaining:

"While we can't share specific details on each one, we'd like to assure local people that we are in the process of getting them removed."
It is told the clean-up of a single boat could cost up to about £10,000 depending on the circumstances, with specialist contractors required, but there is an attempt to trace the registered keeper before removal can go ahead.
But it seems that owners take off any reference to themselves, such as licences and boat numbers from the craft, leaving no method of tracing.
