CULVERT failure closes the Leeds & Liverpool for the seveth time this month.
A structure failure between Crabtree Swing Bridge and New Lane Swing Bridge at Burscough has closed the Leeds & Liverpool, Keith Gudgin reports.
Contractors are on site constructing a dam around the culvert so that an inspection can be made.
This is the seveth failure on the canal this month, the others being Cowling Swing Bridge, Brewery Swing Bridge, Crabtree Swing Bridge, Skipton Pound, Cowling Swing Bridge (again), Leigh Branch, making seven stoppages in all.
Wigan Flight
Eight in fact, as the waterway is also still closed at the Wigan Flight, though Canal & River Trust state that 'Our North West Reactive Team have made great progress at Lock 69 on the Wigan Flight'.
And that the repairs to the sink hole, and planned repairs to the head gate and cill are now complete. With repairs 'also carried out to the by-wash'.
