Ship to Shore celebrates 21 years

Published: Friday, 20 November 2015

MANY boaters such as continuous cruisers will be aware of Ship to Shore, and for newcomers to the nomad life on the waterways it can come as a welcome service.

Ship to Shore is a small, flexible mail forwarding, holding and scanning service for boaters on the move, forwarding mail and tailored as requested, with such as junk mail removed and a filtered list sent. Packages can be accepted from online shops.  Mail can be opened, scanned and then sent be email to save time or collection.

Being in business for 21 years must reflect the stamp of approval of those on the move on the waterways, especially as we are told people tend to stay with the service for years, with Lindsay Trotter's of the company telling us this 'hopefully, reflects the boaters stamp of approval of the high level of professionalism and attention to detail'.

Wherever requested

Mailings can either be forwarded or scanned on a weekly, fortnightly, monthly basis or whenever requested. Each mailing comes with a statement so you can see how much money you have in your postage and packing account and which items, if any, were filtered.

When your funds are running low, a reminder to top up your account will be sent to you. Anything you need looking out for, or if you need anything specifically done (paying in cheques, forwarding items, receiving packets etc), is not a problem. Postage rates will always increase but packing charges will be kept as low as possible.

Text, phone or email

Your mail is kept until you are ready to receive it and you can contact the office by text, phone or email. Your mail will be then be sent, using Royal Mail, to your local Post Office, using the Poste Restante service or to any address you request.

There is a yearly registration fee of £125.00 or a monthly fee of £12.00. In addition to your registration fee, a postage bond of £50 is requested to cover postage, packing and handling costs so depending on how many letters you get and how often you want them sent, this could last for over six months. There is a basic charge of 25p for every item handled but there are other services available which may suit you better. Your year's registration will only begin once your first mailing has gone out which gives you time to change any necessary addresses.

There is also a Pay-by-item service, available for those who only need items sent to them on a one-off basis. You need not pay any registration fee and will only be charged for postage and a small amount for the service.

Give a street address

The office is normally kept open 52 weeks a year so mail can always be sent when requested. As some services (Banks, DVLA etc) don't like PO Boxes, I can also give you a street address to use together with the Ship to Shore PO Box address.
