Stopping the engine noise

The obvious answer to this [engine and generator noise] is more electricity pillars, writes  Pete Earley.

I do find it strange that in this era of trying to get emissions down that visitor moorings, especially those in residential areas, are still developed without them.

Power but not for boats

A good example is Paddington Basin, unless it has changed in the last three years. Pontoons have been provided, at great expense, virtually underneath the hospital windows, the pontoons have lighting so power is there but no electricity pillars.

There are moorings all over the country where power could be ,made available without having to run heavy cables underground for great distances, where card readers and sockets could be placed on walls or buildings to save expense, but the reality is that there are only about two dozen places on the system with power hookup.

Subsidised

Perhaps infrastructure costs could be subsidised, perhaps by the local Wetherspoons or Sainsburys with maps showing the walking route to those places.

The downside, of course, is that such provision might encourage even more boaters to overstay.
