Grant for narrowboat

THERE will soon be boat trips on the Cromford Canal due to a grant of £28,000 to purchase a narrowboat.

Work is already underway on dredging part of the waterway near its terminus at Cromford, making way for a trip boat to be used, (Preparing for Cromford trips—27/02/13), Alan Tilbury tells us.

This summer

The trips will run from Cromford Wharf to Leawood Pumphouse, and with the money available, a suitable boat can be purchased, so it is hoped the trips will be in operation this summer as soon as the dredging is complete, which is expected in June.

The grant has come from the Rural Development Programme for England and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
