I read your piece. I'm a boater. I've given my donation—through the website with Gift Aid attached. Friends of mine (boaters and ex boaters) have also given.

There are always people who argue against the idea of donations—there always have been and there always will be. That's okay, it's voluntary. Those of us who want to give, will do so.

My bit might not help a huge amount towards the total needed, but I feel involved having made my gift. The pleasure I get from being out on the boat is immeasurable and giving a bit extra back (beyond the licence) is something I am able to do and want to do.

I also do some voluntary work in helping with towpath/wood litter picking and clearing. I don't have to do that either. I choose to.

So there are at least two boaters (me and my husband) who have given cash for breach.
