Email: Cake and eat it

Methinks Simon Grindrod wants to have his cake and eat it! Writes Peter Foster.

In his first paragraph he says people do not live on boats because it is cheaper, but then in the third paragraph states that moorings would cost far more than the average person wants to pay. So instead they get a continuous cruiser licence and become continuous moorers. Until the rules are changed, they are as they are.

Abide by the rules

If you do not want to pay for a permanent mooring, by all means get a continuous cruiser licence, but you must then abide by the rules of that licence and cruise! I may like driving my car at speeds in excess of the speed limit, and lots of other people seem to do so too; is Simon suggesting that the rules on speeding should be changed to fit the needs of the people?

The rules were made for the benefit of the boaters; so that people can find space on 48 hours or 14 days moorings rather than have them cluttered up with boats where the occupants are permanently mooring because they have children at school or jobs locally.

I have no objection to the rules being reviewed, but until they are changed, they must be observed or anarchy will prevail. Just because CART has lax enforcement does not give people the right to flout the rules which should be observed by all boaters.
