Email: Three classes

Published: Wednesday, 15 August 2012

I am afraid Amy Dickerson has taken an incorrect view of boaters and the boating world.

There are three classes of boaters. The first are those unspeakable hire boaters who deserve nothing but contempt.

Normal law abiding

Secondly there are normal, law abiding, considerate boaters who don't pinch locks or take up residence on visitor moorings, have licensed boats with BSS certificates and insurance and who don't run their engines or generators at unreasonable hours when close to other boaters.

Lastly there are the important boaters who do whatever the hell they please and turn abusive when some interfering busy body queries something with them. They can also be found to be cruising past moored boats at such a speed as to make one wonder if they know they have lost their skier.

Ms. Dickerson should feel grateful that she is permitted to share water with these elevated beings. I am, and always make a point of tugging my forelock when meeting one.
