Vandals wreck narrowboats

IT IS expected that marina moorings are secure for narrowboats, but the new Greenfield Marina on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal has proven to be the exception.

Two narrowboats were trashed at the marina by Bridge 80 below Saddleworth on the waterway, with a report stating the vandals 'went berserk', breaking windows to gain entry intro the boats then slinging all they could into the water, Alan Tilbury reveals.

They also caused damaged to the interiors of the boats, but left blood stains as they had cut themselves gaining entry through the smashed windows.

The police are involved and the detectives involved believe the DNA from the blood stains will help in bringing the culprits to justice.

The marina was opened in 2008, with berths for 20 boats, in conjunction with the new Tesco supermarket, with the Kingfisher pub adjacent.
