Marina for Droitwich

WORK has started on a marina for Droitwich Spa, aimed at boosting the recent reopening of the waterway through the town.

The 238 berths marina will be on the newly restored section of the waterway near to its junction with the Worcester & Birmingham Canal, and named Droitwich Spa Marina, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Increase in boaters

The marina is being built to accommodate an expected increase in boaters due to the restoration of the waterway, and it is believed it will bring in an expected £2.75 millions to the local economy each year.

The 11 acres site will include extensive use of aquatic plants at the waters edge to encourage wildlife to return to the site. There will be the usual facilities including toilets, fuel and pump out service areas.

It is expected that the marina will be open in the Spring next year.
