Hope for Pocklington funding

A STUDY has been commissioned with the hope of raising £1 million into 'improving' Yorkshire's Pocklington Canal.

British Waterways together with the Leader Waterways Partnership has commissioned the study of the waterway, and local people are being consulted as to what they would like to see happen with Pocklington Canal, Alan Tilbury tells us.

It seems however the study has little to do with boating  as heritage expert Marion Blockley from Shropshire is carrying out the study, and explains:

"My study aims to find out who are the current and potential users of the canal—for example, local families at evenings and weekends, local schools, bird watchers, boaters, dog walkers, ramblers, kayakers, dragon fly enthusiasts, botanists, local historians, industrial archaeologists and how we might do more to meet their needs without compromising the significance of this canal."

The canal runs for just under nine miles, has nine broad locks and is used by the more adventuress boaters.
