Protest against canal

THE proposal to build a canal into Daventry has met with further objections from the ratepayers of the town.

The plan is to create a basin in the town, that Daventry Town Council want to surround by expensive dwellings, but though a poll was conducted that showed the ratepayers of the town were against it, the council is still attempting to go ahead to build both the basin and a link to the Grand Union Canal, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Ruin playing field

The latest protest was held on the Eastern Way Playing Field, where an event was organised by the Friends of Daventry Open Spaces, hoping to protect the playing field against the proposed canal that would ruin it.

The people at the event paraded with a massive banner proclaiming 'Saving our Town Green Space'.

At a poll conducted by the council last year on the proposed basin and canal, 2303 voted against and 721 voted for the development.
