Plans in again for marina

THOUGH the plans for a marina at North Kilworth on the Leicester Line of the Grand Union Canal were refused last year, it is being proposed again.

The original plans for a 240 berths marina were just part of a huge leisure complex, but the plans were withdrawn after opposition from locals together with the owners of the existing wharf, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Addressed complaints

Applicant Mike Goode wants to transform the area into a tourism destination, and the new plans have addressed some of the complaints concerning roads and the impact on the canal conservation area.

The scheme has been scaled down, and no longer includes a pub and retail outlets that were part of the former plans. The berths have now been split to 170 ‘leisure moorings' and 70 'maintenance moorings', whatever they are.

The applicant already operates the marina at Debdale Wharf and a boatyard at Foxton Locks.
