The failing system continues
NEVER BEFORE HAVE we had stoppage notices received in the afternoon, but the number of new stoppages certainly warrants it.
And here they are as reported by Keith Gudgin.
Gloucester & Sharpness Canal—Victoria Basin Swing Bridge currently stuck in the closed position
Calder & Hebble Navigation—Salterhebble Bottom Lock 3, that will take between two and four weeks to repair, as it is concluded that works are needed to ensure it can be safely operated.
Rochdale Canal—Todmorden Lock. Another that is to take time to repair, between four and six weeks, again as works are needed to ensure it can be safely operated.
Huddersfield Narrow Canal—Slaithwaite Lock 24E. Once more told that the work will take from four to six weeks, and again to ensure it can be safely operated.
Erewash Canal—between Long Eaton Lock and Langley Mill, virtually the whole canal is closed through lack of water.
Rochdale Canal—closed through low water levels between locks 48 and 92, Littleborough to Castlefields Junction. Most of the actual waterway.
Wendover Arm (Grand Union Canal)—has been dewatered by Keir contractors between Little Tring Bridge and Stop Gates.
Worcester & Birmingham Canal—Tardebigge Top Lock 58 has been closed since 17th February, but listed building consent was required before work could be done that has been received and work finally started. Completion date not stated.
So another Eight in addition to the six already received this Friday. The failing system indeed continues.
