Repaired culvert on Leeds & Liverpool Canal reopens tomorrow

THE collapsed culvert on the Leeds & Liverpool near Wanless Bridge (145) is now repaired.

The trust states that this will reopen for navigation tomorrow, Thursday 21st December, Keith Gudgin reports.

It was way back on the 11th of October that the culvert collapsed, closing the waterway—11 weeks ago, that must be a record for a culvert repair.

Tunnel closed

The culvert is at the North East Portal of Foulridge Tunnel, that was of course closed.

Many reasons were given for the long closure whilst the culvert was being repaired, with 'the safety of our customers and to ensure a safe working' being prominent.
