Clearing-out Brent Reservoir

Published: Wednesday, 20 December 2023

THE Brent Reservoir built to supply water to the Regent's Canal is currently being drained of water.

This is to allow for repairs and years of rubbish to be removed, as it has become something of a rubbish tip over the decades, Bill Ridgeway reports.

Built to supply water to the Regent’s Canal, Brent Reservoir (also known as the Welsh Harp) is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

It supports a large selection of wetland birds and plants.

This winter, Canal & River Trust, that owns the reservoir, is undertaking a programme of repairs to the chains and rods that operate the reservoir’s sluice gates and also repainting the Valve House Tower.

The works require the trust to lower the water level in the reservoir, so it’s a rare chance to see the reservoir drained, so on Saturday 3rd February 2024, there will be an open day with tours and information,
