IN ADDITION to the Wigan Flight being closed for longer, there seems little urgency with other stoppages, as Keith Gudgin reports.
The repair to Lock 3 on the Northgate Flight (pictured) on the Shrophire Union Canal at Chester that closed the waterway on Wednesday has not yet been started.
All that is told is that following further inspections, specialist contractors are required.
Still on the rocks
Another Wednesday closure was the Coxhead Swing Bridge—after so many regular stoppages given the name by Victor of 'Cox on the Rocks'.
And it is still 'on the rocks' as the navigation remains closed as contractors have had one go and failed and are coming back today to 'carry out further repairs'.
Work boat arrived
The Leicester Section is still closed at Birstall Lock (45) that was awaiting the arrival of a crane work boat.
This has now arrived with the maintenance team ready to carry out repairs to a gate, that we were told was damaged.
The gate requires lifting out, that will be undertaken this week.
Rochdale again
Another failure on the Rochdale yesterday, this time with its Guillotine Lock (19) closed until further notice. It has failed and obviuusly cannot be used until it is fixed.
A 'team' has been appointed to repair the lock.

Leeds & Liverpool
There is no news about the stoppage on the Rufford Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool that also needed a crane boat to fix.
The offside head gate of Lock 2 has a problem that stopped it being worked on Tuesday, that prevented boaters booked to cross the Ribble for the Lancaster Canal. LATEST—Pressure from those booked to cross the Ribble helped to get the Leeds & Liverpool stoppage fixed, with the navigation now open.
