EXTENSIVE repairs are to be made to Binton Bridge over the Avon at Welford-on-Avon.
This includes the replacement of missing and damaged stonework and refacing, both above and below water level, Roger Fox reports.
Strengthening and repairs
Arch strengthening and repairs to the tie-bars are also required, ending with repointing and carriageway resurfacing.
It is not yet known how this will affect the navigation.
Binton Bridge South carries Binton Road over the Avon. It is a Grade II listed building constructed from a combination of limestone ashlar and brickwork and has five arches.
Navigable channel in 1970
The navigable channel was constructed under the 5th arch in 1970.
In addition to work on this bridge, there is continuing work to Clopton Bridge in Stratford-upon-Avon.
