Collapsed wash wall puts Llangollen in jeopardy

THE season is less than three weeks old, after the maintenance period, yet access to the Llangollen Canal is in jeopardy.

A collapsed wash wall just above Hurleston Lock at the junction with the Shropshire Union Canal closed the navigation yesterday, Thursday, Keith Gudgin reports.

This was reopened later in the day when engineers discovered the navigation was still passible, but with the warning it will be until 'a method of repair is being organised'.

In the meantime boaters are asked to take care when passing the collapsed wash wall, listen to any advice that may be given and be prepared to stop.

An update is promised on Friday 5th May when it is expected the necessary closure will be announced.
