Children responsible for drained pound

IT HAS been discovered that children with anti-vandal keys are responsible for the continued draining of the pounds at Stourbridge Locks.

Children have their own keys, and the pounds have been drained twice in the past two weeks, more recently last Friday evening as reported in narrowboatworld.

The pound between the locks was filled by British Waterways staff, and now regular patrols are being made along the flight at Wordsley, with spokeswoman Jessica Black confirming:

"There are anti-vandal locks on the paddles which can be lifted to release the water and you need a special set of keys to undo them. But they are not child proof and we know that children have got hold of sets of keys and copied them so they can undo the locks.

"Unfortunately, they are not 100 per cent vandal proof because where there's a will, there's a way."

However it is hoped that with the school holidays drawing to a close there would be no more problems.
