THE Veolia Environmental Trust, that gives money for community and environmental projects from the Landfill Fund has awarded the River Stour Trust £40,000 that will be used to install lock gates.

The money will allow Flatford and Dedham locks on the derelict Stour navigation to be either repaired or replaced, to bring forward the eventual restoration, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Delighted

Members of the Trust are delighted with the grant, with Treasurer Gareth Cole enthusing:

"This grant is great news. It means we can push the project forward and start work on the much-needed repair and replacement of two locks which have been painted by many renowned artists in this Area of Outstanding National Beauty."

The work will be in two phases, with Phase 1 including the replacement of the lock gates on Flatford Lock and Phase 2 will replace the lock gates on Dedham Lock, starting next year.
