L&L breach nearly completed

THE repair of the breach at Rishton on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is nearing completion, with the last date given of the 23rd November hoping to be met.

The waterway bed has been built up with puddle clay with a liner installed to fully waterproof the canal, and the embankment stabilised, Keith Gudgin tells us.

The material on the liner that can be seen in the photograph is rock armour, that has been laid to protect it.

All that then remains is the culvert liner, that has been designed and made in Germany and is due to be delivered and installed shortly, then the canal to be reopened on Saturday 23rd November.
