'Too flimsy' water points

THOUGH the cast metal water points have sufficed and withstood being vandalized for untold years, Canal & River Trust has decided to replace them with flimsy stainless steel ones, that are already being vandalized.

The photograph of the one at Bridge 27 on the Grand Union Canal West of Braunston, by our Keith Gudgin, shows one with its lock already removed, though the chain that held it is still in place, with Keith remarking:

"I see it didn't take long for the new stainless steel canal-side water taps to be vandalized. The tap pedestals are very flimsy and I don't think it will be long before most of them are either missing completely or totally vandalized to the point that they are unusable."

Dangerous hose

Another point is that a garden hose is attached, though it has been shown that pieces break off its centre, that can be seen as black bits in the water, that have been proven to be carcinogenic.  The flat piping on reels labelled 'Food use' should be the only hose used for filling drinking water tanks, should you be concerned about your health and the possible risk of cancer...
