Days gone when money available

THE days when loads of money was available for such as restoring the Rochdale and Huddersfield Narrow canals and building such as the Falkirk Wheel are long gone, as is the hope of the Bedford to Milton Keynes link, writes David Turner.

Okay, so they managed an underpass for its possible construction, but such underpasses are no guarantee of anything being built, only the possibility.

No cash

We are told 'real progress' has been made, but I just can't find any, unless it was referring to the £3.37 from the Covanta waste to energy plant, but I can tell them it has backed out, so no cash from that source, unless they are hoping for someone to take it over—and fat chance of that.

Then of course the route had to be changed time and time again, as people get fed up of waiting.  How long is it now?—20 years!

Flight of fancy

Martin Brooks describes it well as a 'flight of fancy', and most certainly not as a white elephant 'whose trunk threatens to suck up funds better ring-fenced for maintaining the current network', as Suzanne MacLeod accuses him.  Let's get the fact right.  Though it is a good assumption she had conjured up!

Seem to me as there are too many people making it somewhat of a career for themselves.
