That 'emergency' number

I HAD a similar experience to Orph's many years ago [using the emergency telephone number] when I phoned British Waterways after hours to report very high water levels at Cookley on the Staffs and Worcs, writes Graham Booth.

I got through fairly quickly but the person at the other end asked a number of questions, one of which I recall was 'Is that north or south of Birmingham?'

I applaud Orph's public spiritedness, and hope that no-one trips on his repair or, in this compensation age, they might decide to sue him.
