ANOTHER section of the Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal has been opened, giving a further mile of waterway to Vineyard Hill.

It is just eight months since acquiring the site adjacent to Over Basin, near Gloucester, that local volunteers and volunteers from the Waterway Recovery Group have constructed the extension to the waterway, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Rural

This is part of the ongoing project to restore the entire 34 miles of the canal from the Severn at Gloucester to Hereford, and though most of it is filled in it is rural, with no great obstacles in its way.

A newly restored section of canal near Gloucester has been officially opened.

To mark the occasion, waterways enthusiasts Prunella Scales and Timothy West unveiled a plaque to mark the opening. The restoration project to restore the Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal started in the 1980s.
