THOUGH the Stratford-upon-Avon River Festival over the weekend was billed as CART 'an exiting new charity coming to a waterway near to you in 2012', with advertising galore—nothing!

The Canal & River Trust (CART) failed to put in an appearance, at the festival over the weekend, despite the festival website billing CART, and flyers for the event saying the charity would be present it would appear that the trust did not turn up, reports Allan Richards.

Other charities

Waterways charities and canal societies were, however, widely represented with local Stratford-on-Avon Canal Society, Stratford & Warwick Waterways Trust, Avon Navigation Trust and the Inland Waterways Association all present as were several charities with varying levels of inland waterways connections such RNLI and South Warwickshire Heritage Volunteers Partnership.

Several boaters were canvassed, being asked why they thought CART had not attended, with responses varying from 'Never heard of them' to 'I guess government has put it on hold due to cuts in departmental budgets following the scrapping of the rise in fuel duty'.

There is an unconfirmed report from British Waterways that, the transfer order may be signed today (2nd July 2012).
