Navigation closes

THE Navigation Inn at Lapworth on the Northern Grand Union closed yesterday, Sunday 2nd October. It is not known if it will reopen.

The closure follows that of the Tom o' the Wood at Rowington just South of Lapworth in late July.

Food hygiene offences

The closure of the Navigation Inn came after the conviction of Karen Parfrey, two months ago, on eight food related offences including selling food unfit for human consumption. A fine of £2,000 with costs of £2,152 were imposed.

Narrowboatworld's Allan Richards was told by local drinkers that the reason for closure was due to loss of trade following the convictions.

However, Allan is happy to report that another well known Grand Union pub, the Black Buoy (at Heronfield near Knowle), appears to be thriving, with drinkers and dinners taking advantage of its canalside beer garden to enjoy the warm weather.
