Thames water level lowered

WHILST British Waterways is striving to keep levels up on its waterways, the Environment Agency is doing the opposite—lowering the level of the Thames.

Today (Friday) is the first day of the Reading Festival, when it rains, so expecting rain the agency has decided to lower the water level of the Thames so that the rain will not flood the camp site, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Lowered six inches

It has been lowered by six inches, with the information that this will give 'more leeway to combat flooding', that of course has been achieved by opening weirs downstream.

The Reading Festival is taking place in Little John's Farm on Richfield Avenue from Friday to Sunday.
