AFTER dashing over a mile to attend to a man who had collapsed on the towpath, the rather shattered ambulance crew had a boater transport their patient to the waiting ambulance.

It was during a sponsored walk on the recently re-opened Droitwich Canal that the man in his 70s passed out, with friends calling the emergency services, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Forced to park

The two ambulance men could get no nearer than a mile and a half to the patient, so were forced to park their ambulance and make the dash.

The boater was only too pleased to help, so the man, was was recovering by then was helped onto the boat that took him to the ambulance together with its crew.

Ambulance man Mike Horton told that it was a very kind gesture by the boater to give them a lift, and that they enjoyed the pleasure of travelling at 4mph instead of their normal blue light speed!
