Derby Canal gets go-ahead

LOCAL councillors have voted unanimously for the plan to restore the Derby to Sandiacre Canal, but there is little knowledge of where the money to do so will come from.

It was stated that the canal's restoration would create jobs both in the short and long term, as well as improving the natural environment.

Massive project

However, it was Councillor Howard Griffiths who pointed out at the Erewash Borough Council planning meeting  that it is a massive project and will take some tremendous fund raising to be able to complete.

It was in early July that narrowboatworld reported that the ultimate cost of the restoration would be £45 millions.
