Email: In-season maintenance

I thought that British Waterways had already announced that they were piloting a trial of in-season maintenance on the grounds that it was much more cost-efficient.

(a) days are longer and weather better (b) more efficient if staff can be used all year round, bearing in mind that such work is mainly done by contractors.

I'd hazard a guess that the initiative came from the contractors who will have been tasked to identify ways of doing things better and at lower cost—after all, they are supposed to be expert at it.

To me it makes sense if it can be managed sensitively—not sure that the Diglis example is a good one.
