A FALSE alarm by a member of the public that a child had fallen into the Weaver caused the emergency services to spend three hours in a fruitless search of the river.
The river in Northwich was closed to boating on Saturday after the police and firefighters with a rescue boat and diving team spent three hours searching the river and bank side for the child.
False alarm
The informant had claimed to have seen a child go into the river, but it was shown to be a false alarm.
It was disclosed that the alert had come from another child.
