Marooned as bridge failed

THE adage 'keep it simple' should have been used on the  new £11  millions fancy bridge at Salford Quays in Manchester, as it continues to fail.

The most recent time it failed to open left nearly 300 passengers on a cruise ship marooned for over an hour until the ship could be inched alongside a quay.

Stranded

The boat was left stranded away from its destination  due to a  'technical problem' with the new MediaCity swing bridge that would not open.

It was a Mersey Ferries ship that was taking the passengers on a  cruise along the Manchester Ship Canal from Liverpool to Manchester, but the failure of the bridge stopped it both docking and turning.

Not the first time

This is not the first time this as happened to the pedestrian bridge that links buildings at MediaCity to Trafford Wharf.

It was reported that Dave Thomas who was on board the ship when the bridge failed, remarked that it was  ironic that they had passed through about six old fashioned wooden locks on the journey with no problem, but were stopped about 300 yards from docking because the multi-millions pound footbridge didn't work.
