Urgent winter work cancelled until after Christmas

ONCE again a winter work has been cancelled, but this time it could cause damage to both lock gates and boats.

The somewhat urgent winter work was scheduled for last Tuesday on Lock 8 of the Atherstone Flight of the Coventry Canal, Keith Gudgin reports.

Dragging on bottom of lock

This is as the lower gates were dragging on the bottom of the lock causing damage to the gates, that had dropped.

In addition to this the gates themselves would only open so far, before becoming stuck on the bottom of the lock.

This means that boats are having to squeeze through, thus causing possible damage to both lock gates by the extra pressure and boats themselves, with their sides scraping through the narrow gap.
