Still another 'leak' closes the Macclesfield Canal
THOUGH the 'leak' that closed the Macclesfield Canal for two days last week was repaired, another has caused flooding to neighbouring properties.
This happened between bridges 52 and 53 on the 10th of October and had been repaired two days later with the canal reopened, but now a further 'leak', that seems more like a breach, has occurred between bridges 38 and 39 in Macclesfield, Keith Gudgin tells us.
Fourth such problem
As in the former 'leak', water is pouring out of the waterway into a culvert that is flooding neighbouring properties with the canal closed to navigation. This is the fourth such problem this year with the canal having to be closed both in May and July owing to water escaping.
Alas, once again the stoppage notice is difficult to understand, as it tells us 'The closure is timed to coincide with the other stoppages on the Macclesfield Canal in order to minimise disruption', then goes on to state 'Monday 5 November 2018 08:00 until Friday 14 December 2018 16:00'.
Take your pick
So it is not known if this breach—as that is what it is—is to be repaired with the canal reopened or is to be closed until December. Once again—take your pick!
