Email: Where are we safe?

Published: Wednesday, 05 November 2014

I realise of course that the attacks on the towpaths are nothing compared to the attacks these days elsewhere away from the canals, but I find them very worrying.

Neither myself nor my husband now walk the towpaths as we used to in the evenings when out in the 'sticks', for fear of being attacked, and being of age and so not so good at defending ourselves, we keep our doors firmly locked when we are moored.

But I really thought we were safe moored opposite the National Indoor Area, but was shocked to read that a lady had been brutally attacked just around the corner by the top of the locks that is a busy part in the middle of a big city. So where are we safe?

The problem is that the towpaths are usually dark and dismal places now that winter is upon us, and so ideal for attackers and robbers, but in the middle of Birmingham?
