Stoppage in the making?

WHEN passing through the three locks at Soulbury this past week on the Grand Union Canal, I noticed a rather large hole had appeared on the lock side of the bottom lock, writes John Howard.

Subsidence, I'm guessing caused from the tremendous amount of water that races down the hillside, across the main road and through the pub's gardens whenever there's a heavy downpour.

Hopefully

CaRT have cordoned off the hole in the footpath, and hopefully will be doing something before it reaches their 'Oh darn it, we've another stoppage' category of severity.

We'll watch this one with interest. Hopefully it hasn't affected the structure of the deep lock wall a few feet away.
