Huddersfield closed again

THIS time it is the quadrant to the towpath side tail gate under a balance beam that has collapsed.

The collapsed quadrant is on Booth Lock 31E below Marsden, with the whole lock now fenced off and the waterway closed between locks 33E and lock 30E while Canal & River Trust investigate the repair, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Not outside the Centre

As this is below the Marsden Flight boaters heading towards Huddersfield will have to moor above lock 42E, but CaRT tells us it does not want them to moor outside the Standedge Visitor Centre! Those heading West should moor at 21E at Slaithwaite.

It seems that with so many closures on this waterway through either lock failures (there are 74 of them) or boats sinking in locks, cruising is somewhat hit and miss.

LATEST:

It is expected that the lock will be reopened tomorrow, Saturday.
