Burnley Canal Festival again

Published: Wednesday, 13 August 2014

THE Burnley Canal Festival on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal will have a large collection of working, trade and pleasure narrowboats on display, this year taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

It will feature a whole host of fun activities,  and there will be live music, street theatre, craft and food stalls with a giant puppet procession from noon on the Saturday, with free entry, though a charge will be made for boat trips Alan Tilbury tells us.

Marvellous asset

This is a council run event, with Council Leader Mark Townsend explaining:

"The canal is a marvellous asset for Burnley and I'm delighted to see we are making the most of it. The Burnley Canal Festival is a wonderful event which brings in visitors from a wide area.

"The festival will be another great way to boost Burnley's image. The town has been receiving positive coverage for its exciting transformations in recent months and events such as this can only add to our reputation as a vibrant town with a great lifestyle offer.

Car parking will be free at the Finsley Gate car parks a short walk from the site on the Saturday. Other outlying council car parks are free on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday but Saturday charges will apply. The festival is centred on the canal with the focal point around the Inn on the Wharf.
