Victor: It says it all

Published: Sunday, 27 July 2014

RECENTLY paid for our boat licence and noticed the slogan after the title Canal & River Trust on its letter heading.

It read: Keeping people, nature & history connected.

Says it all...

The big con

Our David Hymers certainly stirred it up with his piece Into the Jungle, outlining his problems with the mass of vegetation by the side of the waterways, and asking why it was so necessary.

Then Andrew Denny delved deeper and was officially told by the RSPB that people should come first at the expense of bird life when it was dangerous, not the opposite as CaRT would have us believe.

For me, it's nothing more than a very weak excuse for not doing the job they are supposed to do—keeping the vegetation under control. Just another con.

Why lie?

It was obvious that the Charity Commission knew exactly how many complaints it had under investigation against CaRT—four.

So why did the Trust lie and state it only knew about one?  It was obviously going to be found out.

Whilst on the subject of telling porkies, why did it also lie about volunteers not taking jobs from paid lock keepers, as it is now very obvious that they have.

And why lie about the increased  number of boaters when its own figures show the opposite to be true?

Together with its well known exaggeration, surely it must realise that the more it lies the less people will believe what it tells...

Don't send

We seem to be getting more and more people sending in what is known as an Open Letter, usually to CaRT's boss man, where they state their grievances together with a bit of opinion thrown in, and expect us to publish.

By all means send such emails to whoever you want, but please don't drag us into it, as all too often the contents are very much exaggerated, and we are unable to balance the accusations as any reply would go to the sender, and in any event would be copyright.
