Associations want representation at inquiry

Published: Thursday, 17 July 2014

BOATERS' associations are most concerned at the lack of boater representation at the proposed All Party Parliamentary Waterway's Group (APPWG) inquiry with the Waterways Minister Dan Rogerson.

As published in narrowboatworld, (This is diabolical) the proposed important inquiry on the future of the waterways will not include any representation from any boating association whatsoever, except the very non-independent IWA.

Jointly

The Association of Cruising Clubs have contacted both the National Association of Boat Owners and the Residential Boat Owners Association, with regards to this meetings, and have agreed to jointly formulate a letter that will be sent to Dan Rogerson outlining their concerns at not being involved in such discussions.

'Making it clear that the IWA does not represent or speak on behalf of all boat owners'.

IWA a secretariat

It is not generally known, but the IWA (a charity) acts as the APPWG's secretariat, assisted by the Shaw Business Partnership (a consultancy).

At the suggestion of our Keith Gudgin, we are asking that readers should send letters/emails to their own MPs, Dan Rogerson MP (Waterways Minister) and all the members of the APPWG to show them our feelings on this matter and outline how unfair they consider the inquiry to be as outlined, with no representation.

[We are receiving copies of emails that have been sent to Sir Roger Baldry and members of the inquiry regarding non-inclusion of any representation of boaters.]
