£1m spent on Whixall Marina

SINCE taking over Whixall Marina on the Llangollen Canal during 2007, British Waterways Marinas Ltd (BWML) have spent more than £1 million in making significant improvements.

And we are told there is still more to come, and that the enhanced facilities have been warmly welcomed by its customers.

Open weekend

To celebrate all the work that has been accomplished, the marina is hosting an Open Weekend on Saturday 6th September and Sunday 7th September (with free mooring on the Saturday evening), and is inviting boaters to come and see what it has to offer.

To date, the improvements include new moorings, new electricity bollards, escape ladders, new pump-out and sewerage system, self-service diesel and new tanks, building and customer facilities improvements, including disabled access, new car parks and disabled car parking.

Residential berths

The trend now of course is to cater for residential moorings as more and more people are taking to living on the water, and with no restrictions on the marina, up to 148 residential berths are now available.

Julie Cutts, Acting Marina Manager, BWML Sawley, Diglis, Whixall and Kings Marinas explains:

"The new facilities were not only brought in to make our customers' lives easier, but also the standards of the marina were really improved in all respects, from access to customer safety. Throughout an extensive investment programme, landscaping works to waterside lawns with picnic benches, as well as installing a pond and a fountain, meant that the marina provided a parks and gardens space for customers to enjoy."
