Email: Volunteers helped

With the bad press that Canal & River Trust and its volunteers have had lately I thought I would just brighten their day a little.

I am disabled and my wife is at present not well and on arriving at the top of Atherton Flight we were deciding whether to turn around or scrabble our way down hoping not to hinder other boaters.

The guys at the top lock came over and having spoken to them, they took us all the way down the whole flight. We were so grateful and never expected such help.

It was also nice that the disabled gate across the towpath, which was jammed and had been for some time, was reported by them and repaired the next day.  Yes a big thank-you to them.
