Wrong cement?

THE current planned stoppage at Cropredy Lock on the Oxford Canal has developed a new twist writes Kevin McNiff.

An unscheduled reduction in the water level between Cropredy and Broadmoor locks due to needing repairs to the weir at a lower level (no problem—it happens) has meant that the water will not be restored until Wednesday as Canal & River Trust have used 'the wrong cement'!

Brickwork repairs

The stoppage was planned and notified on Waterscape. Lowering the pound was due to the brickwork repairs needing to be lower than expected. No problem with that!

There was an additional notice midweek advising boaters not to moor in the pound but this was too late for at least one already there. Broadmoor Lock was not chained-up either so boats could still come down.

CaRT says it will be at least until Wednesday 13th so the stoppage may well finish on schedule.
