Ambiguous visitor moorings

I'M AT Fazeley Junction on the Coventry Canal at the moment and I noticed that there is an ambiguity about how long I can stay on the visitor moorings, writes Keith Gudgin.

The signs just do not tally as they say different things on different posts.

Picture one is of the northern post, picture two is of the southern post and picture three is of the post in between them.

Plain to see

I do not need to explain the ambiguity as it is plain for all to see.

The question is this: If I came onto this mooring and just past the first post I come to I moor up which says seven days, do I then have to hunt about to see if there are any other signs that contradict this time period? If I find one, as here, what am I to believe?

With these signs do I have seven days or 48 hours? As there are two signs stating seven days and only one stating 48 hours I think I would be fully justified in assuming that the 48 hours sign has been put up in error and I should therefore be able to ignore it.

Contradict those already there

This is at Fazeley, but I have come across this many times on my travels where the new signs that are being put up totally contradict the signs that are already there. How are we to know what is allowed when we are confronted with signs that cannot even agree with themselves.

One notable is at Sutton Stop where no mooring signs have been put up between seven days mooring signs.

Also, can someone explain to me what 2D means? Is it the equivalent of 48 hours, two nights, or just two periods of daylight? 2D signs have been put up at Foxton among the others.
