Happy birthday CaRT!

TO CELEBRATE its first birthday on 2nd July, Canal & River Trust is recycling its appeal to adopt a stretch of canal, writes Allan Richards.

No bunting or balloons accompany CaRT's first birthday, with the scheme being a re-launch having first been put forward last year.

News releases

The news release dated 2nd July begins 'As we celebrate our first birthday today, we're launching an appeal for communities to transform their local canal or river by adopting mile-long stretches of waterways across England and Wales'.

However this appeal was actually launched some 14 months ago. On 2nd May 2012, when we were regaled with 'Could you adopt a canal and make a difference to your local community?'.

The same

Even the picture which accompanies the re-launch is the same as the one 14 months ago although it is now captioned 'Canal adoptions' rather than 'Blisworth Canal Partnership scheme'.

Perhaps this is because the 'blurb' that accompanies the birthday re-launch makes no mention of Blisworth Canal Partnership.

Forgotten

CaRT was launched on the 2nd July 2012. One year later, it appears the trust has simply run out of ideas and is having to recycle old ones.

With a video which accompanied the re-launch showing just five hits after 13 hours the question has to be asked....

Have the public simply forgotten CaRT?
