Fundraising cruise by raft

Published: Monday, 29 April 2013

JOHN Wonfor was so impressed by the work of the Macmillan nurses, who took care of his wife when suffering bowel cancer, that he has undertaken a six months canal cruise on little more than a motorised raft.

Starting early this month from Selby Boatyard, he is travelling the waterways on his home-made boat, emblazoned with McMillan signs, collecting for the charity.

Distant places

Alas, he lost his wife to the disease last year, and spent the winter building his 'boat' and preparing for his marathon trip taking in such distant places as Llangollen, Godalming and Thetford.

And he is 'roughing it', actually sleeping every night in a fold up pod, his son Tony tells us, who believes he is mad!

So if you meet John along the way, please help him swell the funds for what is a very worthy cause indeed, one appreciated by so many.
