Email: Emergency number

Your story the Canal & River Trust 'emergency' number makes shocking reading.

It goes without saying that if that is typical of the sort of response one gets when ringing the number, it will not be long before people die as a result.

But with CaRT now in the 'third sector', I'm unsure as to what statuatory responsibility they have to provide a genuine 'emergency' service? And what legal sanctions the organisation would be liable to as a result of being so gobsmackingly useless? (The fact that they label their number 'Emergency' is surely grossly misleading, at the very least.)

Perhaps one of their extremely well paid directors could comment.
