Society pulls out of festival

THE organisers of Ellesmere Boat Festival admit that it will not be the attraction it has been in previous years, as the Shropshire Union Canal Society has pulled out of the event.

The Festival, that is held in the town on the Shropshire Union Canal, will not have its full complement of events as it relies on the society to both organise the boats and provide volunteers.

Few boats

The organisers believe that without the society to organise the boat show,  there will be very few attending compared with in the past,  so will not attract the crowds.

A further blow to the event, that is staged from the 13th to 15th of September, is that neither will there be the attraction of a fireworks display.

It is particularly disappointing to the council, for this is the 30th such event, and was to be somewhat special. However it has stated that it will still carry on, bringing in a model railway exhibition as an attraction.
